The life of Colleen DeJong is shrouded in mystery. The myth surrounding her life include rumors that she is a displaced Polynesian princess, but this seems incongruous with the equally prevalent rumor that she was, at one point, a jackalope roper on the plains of Nebraska. But these are swashbuckling tales at best. There is no confirmation of their validity.

What is known, is that in 1987, the burgeoning writer moved to Cleveland, OH to study journalism, Cleveland Browns football history, and pirogis. She also drove a flaming yellow Plymouth Sundance, affectionately called "the beer taxi" for reasons DeJong refuses to elaborate upon.

Her post college years are a hodgepodge of box factories, lawyers, and trade press magazines. The last of which brought her to Detroit and the automotive industry, where she began writing for AD&P in 1997, under Gary Vasilash's watchful eye. DeJong's hopes for a quiet life were destroyed when she found that the demons of rumor and innuendo followed her to the Motor City, with tales involving the Canadian border, slot machines, and Cuban cigars haunting her to this day. Her recent move from Detroit to Cincinnati, OH has the general public speculating as to whether or not she's running from the law. DeJong denies these rumors, stating only that she "needed a new apartment."

DeJong's most recent public exploit has been her vehement denial of her support of Gary Vasilash's Honda Civic, but her recent purchase of a 1999 CR-V belies her denial.
