Growing up in a U.A.W. household in the suburban Detroit community of Warren, Kevin Kelly has seen the inner workings of the auto industry from every perspective. His father worked at GM's technical center as a clay model maker for 39 years, allowing Kevin to get inside GM's massive design studios as a youngster, although little did he know he was viewing top-secret vehicles at the time because he was too busy playing with the leftover clay.

Kevin began his automotive journalism career on a bet from a friend, who said Kevin would be unable to break his way into the world of auto wordsmithing; he later cashed in on that free dinner. After toiling in the ranks of radio journalism for several years at Detroit radio station WPON, Kevin moved on to wire-service journalism as correspondent for BridgeNews, working his way up to the post of Senior Automotive Correspondent responsible for managing global coverage of the auto industry.

After more than five years in the wire service business, Kevin moved on to the more exciting world of the auto trade press, joining Ward's Communications as their European Editor. Having driven the famed Fiorano Ferrari test track and traversed the Portuguese auto industry during his four-year tenure at Ward's, Kevin decided it was time to move on to greener pastures and joined the staff of AD&P as Senior Editor in July 2005.
