The Family Jewels
The folks at Lotus recently celebrated the company’s
60th anniversary with a party at its headquarters in
Hethel. To celebrate the event, a specially equipped Lotus Europa
was built that featured more than £100,000 of diamonds throughout
the interior.

Distracted Driv...What?
Britain’s Royal Automobile Club has conducted a study that proves
that text messaging while behind the wheel results in driving
skills that are impaired more than if the driver was drunk or
high. Reaction times deteriorated by more than 35%, drivers
drifted out of their lane more often, and the ability to maintain
a safe distance fell dramatically.

On This Day in VW History...
Forty years ago, VW introduced the world to its 411,
the largest of Volkswagen’s air-cooled cars. The unibody car came
with a choice of two or four doors, had a newly designed
1.6-liter boxer motor mounted in the back and topped out at 90
mph. Development of the car began in 1962.

the release about the new audio system created by Bang &
Olufsen and Aston Martin for the latter’s DBS (hence its BeoSound
DBS name), their hype machines go just as high.

Shocking News
The folks at electric car maker ZAP! have joined with Integrity
Automotive to break ground on a new joint venture production
facility in Franklin, Kentucky. The goal is to build
a one-million square-foot production facility on the 200-acre
site for $100-million, and have it producing electric vehicles
within 12 months while employing 1,000 locals.
